Farms

There are many farms in Hana growing a variety of fresh produce. You will find locally harvested fruits and vegetables for sale at roadside stands, farmers markets, and on the shelves at local markets. Hana is blessed with fertile soil which farmers refer to as "black gold". Just about anything will grow on the various elevations of the Heleakala Mountain. The perfect amount of rainfall in the Hana area provides the ideal opportunity for farmers to use their green thumb and grow a large variety of exotic fruits and vegetables. In addition to the many farms growing food, there are also edible ferns and flowers; all which make for the freshest of ingredients in colorful and healthy meals.

We, the Kipahulu 'Ohana, are a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating residents and visitors of the "ways of old" through cultural demonstrations and hands-on activities. Using the wisdom and spiritual guidance of our kupuna (elders, learned teachers), we seek to re-establish a Hawaiian lifestyle in Kipahulu. By initiating sustainable projects, dividing the labor, and sharing the results we will preserve our culture.

Kolea, timber-built in 2003, (permit t20120005) is located a mile from Hana's tiny airport on the lower slopes of the 10,000 foot Mount Haleakala, surrounded by lawn carved out of the forest in a secluded corner of our fruit farm. Our 11-acre estate is bursting with flowers, fruit trees and tropical plants of many sorts. Guests are welcome to fruit from our trees, flowers from the garden and books from our library to read while listening to CDs of Hana musicians or the dawn and dusk bird chorus, enjoying the ocean view from the lanai.

Hāna Ranch is dedicated to serving as responsible stewards of the land, weaving together the resources of the ranch and community to nurture a thriving economy that will benefit Hāna for generations. Hāna Ranch is a working cattle ranch on 3,600 acres in Hāna, Hawaiʻi that has a diverse business model. We practice a "One Ranch" approach that links all of our operations together: each arm of our business (our organic farm, livestock operation, resource recovery area, retail locations, food service and hospitality teams) all work to support and feed one another. We want to be more than a sustainable business, we want to be a regenerative one, actively working to make the land and our community better each day.

Our focus is on sustainable agriculture that enriches the land and that will provide healthy, fresh food for the people of Hāna, Maui, and Hawaiʻi to enjoy. Our work at Hāna Ranch is rooted in the values of land stewardship, collaboration, and community. Our produce is grown organically without the use of harmful synthetic chemicals or genetically modified seeds. We believe that by caring for the land, we can deliver the best produce to our customers and strengthen the foundation of our community. Learn more at hanaranch.com.
